Yousif Al Khoei, Director of Public Affairs at the Al-Khoei Foundation and Director of the Centre for Academic Shi’a Studies, is a founding member of the IDS-led Coalition for Religious Equality and Inclusive Development (CREID). Earlier this year, he contracted Covid-19 and has experienced extremely serious symptoms and side effects. He is still recovering in hospital. Nonetheless, he was keen to shoot this video, which was filmed in hospital and shot in four parts because even three minutes is a long time to speak when recovering from Covid-19.
In the video, Sayid Yousif emphasizes the need to take precautions against Covid, he laments the particular impact which Covid-19 has had on religious minorities around the world – something that CREID has documented and raised awareness over – and he finishes with a reminder that Ramadan, which is drawing to an end today with the announcement of Eid al Fitr, offers an inkling of the hunger, suffering and poverty many people face around the world. Eid Mubarak to all those who are celebrating.
